Ok internet people - a weird thing happened to me on Signal. You know how now there are user names and little icons to indicate who is saved in your phone? I was trying to look someone up and realized there were a TON of Signal contacts with the "saved to your phone" indicator who I did not know. After some sleuthing, I realized that somehow a friend's entire contact list had synced to my Signal account, presumably because months ago they logged into youtube on my phone... i do not sync my Signal app to google, so i dont really understand how this happened. These contacts aren't synced to my google account, or to my phone contacts, but they are now synced to my Signal app... I contacted the friend and they went to accounts.google.com and saw they were "logged in" to my phone, and have logged out. But how do I clear the synced contacts??? Anyone ever heard of this? Super creeppppyyyy!
I am excited to finally share our recent paper "Filtering After Shading With Stochastic Texture Filtering" (with @mattpharr@marcosalvi and Marcos Fajardo), published at ACM I3D'24 / PACM CGIT, where we won the best paper award! 1/N
@demofox@wadeb@mtothevizzah@iralmeida@aras it's a really neat and convenient language, IMO. And the ecosystem is great, it can take or output HLSL, CUDA, and you can bind your real proper game shaders to PyTorch (just compute ones, but I doubt this is a problem nowadays). The only possible concern: now HLSL is adding templates, Slang works with generics. The latter might be better (real types, better errors etc), but this can cause divergence in future.
@demofox@wadeb@mtothevizzah@iralmeida@aras in either case, I think Toksvig-like approaches are outdated. With optimization you can work with any BRDF, include subtle effects like albedo change due to interactions with specular, convert between BRDFs (simplified one for LOD!), or when combined with raytracing, easily bake in (directional?) ao and spec occlusion, all automatically!
Just sent out “Rising Resistance" to beta readers! So glad to have revisions off my plate. It's always the slowest part of writing for me. I don't dislike it, I add a ton of material, but it's a slog.
@jwilker@bookstodon I love this. But I doubt I'll have the time to commit my assistance. I have boosted in hopes it catches others eye tho. :) Best of luck (and Ill be checking out your already released novels).
@SonnyBonds@lesley yeah, PowerShell seems amazing if someone uses it daily for anything on Windows, but since I work on many OS at home and at work, mastering two scripting languages seems unpractical and confusing.
(And anyway, anything slightly more complex I do in Python :) ).
@BartWronski I ended up running clink again, and it feels nice.
Running starship for some extra prompt customization on one computer as well, haven't quite decided if I like that or not but I haven't uninstalled it at least.
